Technical analysis of Tokyo 2020 Olympics now available

The world governing body’s technical team covering the analysis of Tokyo 2020 featured a mix of renowned football experts, performance analysts, and football data scientists and engineers. This reflects the vision of Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, which involves technical observation and football data analytics being utilised together to enhance people’s understanding of the game and improve the fan experience.

After returning from Japan, the FIFA technical team members pooled their observations and identified the standout technical aspects on display in both the women’s and men’s competitions. The culmination of this collaborative process can now be accessed on the FIFA Training Centre by navigating to the “Tournament observations” section at the bottom of  “The Game” page.

We also spoke to some of the Tokyo 2020 semi-finalists’ and finalists’ head coaches, who elaborated on their teams’ Olympic campaigns from a technical perspective. These insight-packed interviews are accessible in the “Tournament observations” section together with the aforementioned pieces on the technical highlights of the competitions.
