During the first week of July, Indonesia hosted a landmark FIFA Coaching Development Knowledge Exchange Workshop, welcoming coach education leaders from 19 member associations (MAs) across the Asian Foodtball Confederation (AFC) and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC).

This initiative is proof of FIFA's commitment to nurturing home-grown coaching talent worldwide. The workshop covered essential topics such as strategic planning and the creation of coach development pathways, which are key for building a solid framework for the future of football in each participating nation. By equipping MA coach education leaders with these advanced skills and knowledge, FIFA aims to enhance the overall quality of coaching at both grassroots and elite levels. The collaboration between FIFA Technical Leadership and Coaching Development teams played a crucial role in providing the right tools and guidance for these leaders, ensuring they are well-prepared to implement effective coaching strategies in their home countries.

A major component of the workshop was dedicated to strategies for recruiting more female coaches. This focus aligns with the FIFA Women’s Football Strategy, which aims to improve the standards of women’s football globally. Addressing the challenges and opportunities within women’s football, the course provided valuable insights and practical approaches to support the growth of the women's game. "The collaborative approach with Sarai, FIFA Chief Women's Football Officer, was invaluable, as we grasped the opportunity to ensure 19 MA leaders of Coach Development face the challenge head on to keep up with the exponential growth of women’s football. We recognise the immediate challenge to attract and retain more female coaches and coach educators to deliver a quality female player pathway to aid development and retention. The MAs were inspired to play their part in this journey and commit to plans with deliberate intervention programmes to support the FIFA Women’s Football Strategy," said Jamie Houchen, Head of FIFA Technical Leadership.

Indonesia's involvement in this event is particularly noteworthy. The country has been making significant strides in developing elite youth coaches as part of their Coaching Education modules for B and C licenses, funded through the FIFA Talent Development Scheme. This initiative is strategically aimed at maximising the potential of the Indonesian team for the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ in 2025. In addition, PSSI also hosted the FIFA/MA Coach Educators’ Development Pathway, a programme designed to improve the quality of coaching development in the member association. By investing in education, developing youth coaches and coach educators, Indonesia is laying a strong foundation for the future success of its national teams.

The exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices among the leaders in coach education from different regions is expected to have a far-reaching positive impact on football development across all confederations.
