The technical experts will be supported by a team of analysts from our Football Performance Insights team, and will collectively record and report on the tactical, technical and physical insights that emerge during the men’s and women’s tournaments. Throughout the tournament, these observations will be explored in detail and will be available on the FIFA Training Centre. After the tournament, the observations will be studied in greater depth and then mapped against recent men’s and women’s FIFA tournaments, to identify, highlight and educate on emerging trends.
The men’s competition runs from July 25th to August 9th with 16 teams competing in four groups of four. The top two nations of each group advance to the knockout stage. Squads consist of 18 players and four alternate players. All players in the men’s competition must be born on or after 1 January 2001, with the exception of three permitted overage players. Japan have opted against including any overage players. The teams competing are Argentina, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Guinea, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Mali, Morocco, New Zealand, Paraguay, Spain, Ukraine, USA and Uzbekistan.
The women’s competition runs at full senior international level (no age restrictions), with 12 teams competing in three groups of four across seven host venues. The top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams will advance to knockout stages. It promises to be highly competitive tournament with the best teams competing from each confederation go toe to toe. The qualified nations are Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Nigeria, Spain, USA and Zambia.
